- The Lion King (Also, in your head. Endlessly)
To be honest, I didn't think I would be writing this soon! That's because I wasn't expecting Earth shattering events that would completely rewrite the fabric of space and time! Okay, I'm exaggerating a little. But something 'big' has happened and I suppose it deserves a mention.
So a few posts ago I mentioned that I wasn't particularly happy with how stb had been in regards to communication speed and giving a lot of kiwis the Australian Police check, which was of no use to us whatsoever. I'm hoping that most kiwis picked up on that, but I think I've seen at least one person ask how to pay for the Australian Police Check from NZ on the facebook page before they were bought up to speed. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that it seemed that stb wasn't doing that great a job at things... but even then, I (and I assume quite a few others) were quite surprised when it was announced by stb that they would no longer be looking after us in the lead up to our departure. Instead, Disney will be handling it directly.
Now, neither company has directly addressed why this has happened. (The closest we've had is that Disney wanted to 'strive for process enhancements and efficiencies', according to the email we received). It has seemed to happen very suddenly since a few days before the announcement stb had been advertising another interview session here in Auckland. Not sure if that is happening anymore, since I was pretty keen to get someone to go to it.
Personally, I'm not too worried. Disney obviously has my email (I got the announcement email from them) and stb has promised to forward all paperwork that I've sorted out so far. I'm a little concerned that I haven't received the second email which contained a checklist of things we've needed to do, but luckily they are all online so someone else linked to theirs. If I miss out on any more emails I'll give them a shout to see if I am all sorted. Thanks to technology and email they might as well be down the road with how quickly we can communicate. You know, it's a small world and all :P
We have gotten a bit more information out of them that we hadn't been able to sort out from stb. The one I can remember that is most important is that they petition for our Visas as soon as everyone gets their passport, proof of student status and police check forms sent in! I've done these (I think the first two were due in like... June). I've handed in the first two, and my police check is hopefully getting processed at the moment. When I get that back I'll scan it and send it off to Disney.
But here is my plea to everyone else in the January Intake: Please PLEASE get all your paperwork done as soon as you can! A) I'd hate if anyone wasn't able to come and B) I need to get my Visa sorted before I leave Auckland at the end of this semester.
Actually, about that. I am not too sure what I am going to do once uni finishes up. If I can get more hours at either of my jobs then I could probably justify hanging around, but I'd have to get a new place since I'm pretty sure my flatmate will be going home and I can't afford the full $345 a week! I think I'll probably have to go back to Wellington and see if I can get a job leading up to Christmas (maybe at NZ Post again?) or otherwise just bum around and enjoy the short summer I'll have. Surely my parents can't fault me for that? After all I do have a job lined up in January and all :P
In any case, come November I should be pretty sorted as far as savings goes. (I believe I worked out my tib job would reward me with $5,000 by then, I've just past $2,000 once you include what I spent on my flights. Anything I earn post-uni will be spending money. Which I kind of do want... I have a thing about decorating my room. This was my wall when I was in the student hostel last year. And this was really when it had only half of what it usually did on it.
FINALLY, I've come to the decision that it will be my goal to ride every single ride in the Disney theme parks next year. Not sure if this includes the water parks yet (we don't get into them for free in the peak season and going there in winter is kind of sad, if they're even open) but hopefully I'll get some fellow suckers... er participants to come along for that with me. I will certainly need prodding when it comes to some rides. I am a total wimp. I mean seriously... THE HORROR...
Just kidding. Actually, the last time I was there they had added New Zealand to that ride. It was this single (very black) Maori dancer with ferns and a couple of kiwis, I think. It made me laugh since A) I have no Maori in me whatsoever and B) I have never actually seen a kiwi bird in person. I've been to the nocturnal house at the zoo but still never saw anything. I have seen a lot of ferns though. Eh.
ANYWAY.
Have one of those Magical days or something <3
