- Meet the Robinsons
Well, it was about four weeks ago when I was walking through the University of Auckland engineering building when I saw a rather large sign up in the entrance advertising the information evening for the Walt Disney World International Program the following Tuesday. A meeting that I went to, then interviewed for the following day.
Now before you start thinking I'm a little bit nuts to just jump into something that fast, I had actually read about the program before. If you don't know about it, Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida offers several programs that give you the opportunity to live work and learn at the happiest place on Earth! The Australia/New Zealand program is either six or twelve months, starting in January or July, and that's what I've signed up for and to my excitement I actually got into starting January 2012!
Anyway, I'm writing this blog to keep all the memories and share them with my friends and family. I know its not all gonna be a piece of cake. It looks like its gonna be about $4000 all up to get there and back but I know its going to be TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I have about 200 days to get sorted, while holding up two jobs AND full time university. This is gonna be great!
So like I said I went to the Information Evening at Auckland Uni about a month ago. Some recruiters from Disney came along and showed off what you could get out of the program as well as about Disney in general. (Like the fact that they own ESPN and all which, no matter how many times I hear it always surprises me.) The next day I had my interview, and I was first up!!! But Jeni was lovely and I guess the Primacy effect (I had a Psychology Exam this morning... shoot me) helped me out cause I was accepted! There's meant to be about 120 people throughout Australia and New Zealand that are heading over in January and its likely that we're gonna be in apartments together so I've been spending some (read: too much) time on the facebook group chatting about how excited we are!
Anyway, if you're thinking of applying (totally do it) the stuff that you needed to have ready were things like a passport valid until at least six months after the end of your program, a proof of your student status and completion of the online application form before the interview. You don't need to have these on the day of the interview (other than the application) but if you do get accepted you'll have to get them sorted out.
I've already had to spend some money on the process! On the day I got accepted treatme.co.nz was doing a special for an eye test, lens and frames. What does this have to do with Disney? Well, Disney has very strict appearance guidelines and my current (awesome) glasses don't quite meet them so I was going to have to get some new ones anyway. I do wear contacts but I'm not sure I can be bothered putting them in every day so I'll glasses as a backup anyway! I think in this blog I'm gonna keep a running total of what I've spent leading up to things.
In any case, the point I'm up to now is waiting to get our actual travel dates from Disney through STB Australia as well as sorting out what kind of police check I have to get done. I got sent info for an Australian one but I'm a kiwi! So just checking that's what needs to be done.
Anyway, I was inspired to do this by Jess's blog. She's also a kiwi heading over there, but six months ahead of me. I imagine that I'm going to be waaaaaaaaaaaay less organized than she is! But keep up with her. Also her blog looks much prettier than mine at the moment... hahaha. She has links to a lot of other blogs on her site too, if you're interested.
It is here that I will leave you with a farewell!
Have a magical day!
(Apparently I'm going to have to say that a lot... I might as well get used to it)
